Dr Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, and Dr Juergen Ruettgers, State Premier of North Rhine-Westphalia, officially put into operation the pilot scrubbing plant for power station flue gases together with Werner Stump, Chief Executive of the Rhein-Erft District, and the Chief Executive Officers Dr Juergen Hambrecht (BASF SE), Professor Dr Wolfgang Reitzle (Linde AG) and Dr Juergen Grossmann (RWE AG) at the Coal Innovation Centre of RWE Power in Niederaussem today.

Effective July 1, 2009, or as contracts allow, BASF is increasing the sales prices for butanediol and butanediol derivatives by EUR50 per metric ton in Europe. This measure applies in particular to 1,4 butanediol (BDO), tetrahydrofuran (THF), gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) and N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP).

BASF and F.A.R. Fabbrica Adesivi Resine S.p.a (F.A.R.), Cologno Monzese, Italy, have agreed to cooperate for the production, marketing and sale of the polyalcohol trimethylolpropane (TMP). This cooperation is expected to take effect in July 2009. Under the agreement F.A.R. will take over production of TMP for both partners at its Vercelli site near Milan. On the other hand, BASF will be exclusively responsible for the marketing and sales of TMP.

BASF will present its chemical intermediates, catalysts and inorganics portfolio at the “ChemSpec” trade show in Barcelona, Spain, on June 17 and 18. ChemSpec Europe is considered one of the major trade shows for manufacturers of fine and specialty chemicals in this region.

With immediate effect, BASF is increasing the sales prices for methylamines and key methylamine derivatives globally by EUR50 per metric ton or USD70 per metric ton. The price increase shall apply to current supply agreements as soon and as far as allowed under their terms and conditions.

Ludwigshafen, Germany – May 18, 2009 – BASF is building a new plant for the production of methylamines at its integrated Verbund site in Geismar, Louisiana, that is scheduled to start operations in 2011. The methylamines will serve as raw materials for some 20 different specialty amines produced by BASF at existing facilities in Geismar.
